Description

Publics is traditionally a surf spot directly offshore of Kapiolani Park Beach and the Waikiki Aquarium. It is contained within the Waikiki Marine Life Conservation District, which prohibits fishing in the area. As a result of the conservation efforts, marine life is particularly vibrant. The swim out is very shallow with lots of coral heads and a sandy bottom. Avoid snorkeling too close to the surfers, especially during summer swells. If you stay nearshore, the swimming should be relatively effortless, because the coral protects you from the waves.
