Quick Stats
Description
Electric Beach (Kahe Point Beach Park) is a favorite among divers for its excellent visibility and reliable marine life, thanks to the warm water outflow from the adjacent power plant. Anticipate encountering various tropical fish, schools of Jacks, and frequently spotting green sea turtles and large moray eels as you explore the offshore reef and artificial structures.
Best time to dive
Diving at Electric Beach is generally best during the summer months, when the northwestern swells frequent in winter are absent. However, conditions here are notably more consistent than at other spots on the North or West Shore; 'EB' is one of the few locations that reliably offers diver-friendly conditions year-round. To find the best window of calm, clear water, check the visibility prediction and ocean condition plots in the intra-week forecast.
Check current conditions before diving. Weather and ocean conditions can change rapidly.
Landscape
The bathymetry of Electric Beach is defined by a shallow, sandy shelf that gradually deepens as it extends offshore toward a thriving reef ecosystem. The warm water outflow pipes from the adjacent power plant create an artificial structure, surrounded by the main reef, where depths range from approximately 30 to 60 feet, making it accessible for recreational divers. The presence of these pipes and surrounding artificial reef structures creates unique topography, attracting and sheltering abundant marine life.
Highlights
- •Warm Water Outflow: Benefit from the warm water currents from the power plant pipes, which attract and sustain abundant marine life
- •Abundant Fish Life: Easily spot dolphins, monk seals, turtles, rays, large schools of fish, including Jacks, Goatfish, and Butterflyfish, often swirling near the pipe structures.
- •Unique Structures: Explore the two large, abandoned outflow pipes which have created a distinct, thriving artificial reef ecosystem. Also a hidden buddha statue!
